The higher education professionals liked both the concept of developing skills through eco-friendly travel and the way it was displayed and explained. Our poster “Elevating students’ green skills through sustainable travel”, presented in September at the EAIE 2024 conference in Toulouse, was awarded the best in its session by the participants.
Our presentation was inspired by the Green Competencies Repository and provided a visual representation of a student’s journey from preparation to graduation when traveling sustainably to reach and return from their mobility destination. This pathway emphasizes the development and enhancement of transversal competencies, such as preparation, communication and curiosity, ultimately showing the potential for students to gain critical skills throughout their sustainable learning experiences.
We had the opportunity to engage with many international relations officers from Dutch, Portuguese, German, Belgian, and Spanish higher education institutions, as well as colleagues from Nuffic, the Dutch National Agency, and a volunteer from ESN Germany.
One of the highlights was showcasing our interactive board game, which caught the attention of many attendees. They considered it a unique and engaging way to convey the concepts behind our project to the student population. We also dove into discussions about upcoming project activities, notably the student campaign to win Eurail tickets, and the evolution of green travel in Erasmus+ in recent years.
The poster was kindly designed by Cláudia Barros, a student enrolled at the University of Porto. Many thanks to her for the great collaboration and inspiration!
